LANDSCAPE

LANDSCAPE

Landscape- all the visible features of an area of land, often considered in terms of their aesthetic appeal

Why is depth of field important in landscape photography

The depth of field is the part of a photo which is in focus, shallow depth of field = 2.8, wide depth of field = 22 +

What f stop is recommended

In landscape photography, you'll typically want to use a higher f stop, or narrow aperture, to get more of your scene in focus. Generally, you'll want to shoot in the f/8 to f/11 range, topping out at around f/16.

What additional equipment is required to help capture landscapes
- Internet
- Backpack
- Weather sealed camera
- Sturdy tripod
- Lenses
- Filters
- Good pair of shoes

Why is Ansel Adams’ zone system important in capturing tone/tonal

A way of controlling your prints tonal range. The process begins by previsualising your subject as having up to nine tone zones between but not including, pure black and pure white. The tonal range of final prints is adjusted by light readings at the shooting stage, and development at the processing stage.

Artist research -

Fay Godwin (17 February 1931 – 27 May 2005) was a British photographer known for her black-and-white landscapes of the British countryside and coast. Godwin was introduced to the London literary scene.  She produced portraits of dozens of well-known writers, photographing almost every significant literary figure in 1970s and 1980s England, as well as numerous visiting foreign authors.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
My idea for this shoot was to capture landscapes in the countryside. By focusing on fields and trees and how natural lighting can affect your photos. One of my favourite photos would be the woodland area with the tree as the colours are very vibrant and show an autumnal appearance.

AO2Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

I used a Canon DSLR and with an exposure of f4.0- f5.8 and a shutter speed of 1/100 - 1/125. I also decided to take certain pictures at a canted angle and most were taken at wide angle. After i decided to improve my images by editing them in photoshop and adjusting the hue, saturation vibrance and experimenting with curves.

AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

(Here you will discuss how you developed your work based on your research of e.g. artists/photographers, etc).

The artist research was helpful as It meant I could develop my work further based on looking at the photographer Fay Godwin. It showed me how I could capture people in a picturesque way and explore tones with face pigmentation and bone structure.

(It is important that you show a progression of your work… which may mean revisiting a subject area and adding additional images showing a development of your ideas or refinement of the final images through).

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

(At the end of the entry you will discuss whether you have produced a personal and meaningful response, this means  (are my images creative/relevant to the subject area studied/connected and influenced by any research undertaken).

I believe that I was able to produce a strong series of images based on my research and photographic intelligence. By experimenting with backdrops and lighting and then using editing tools like the heal brush I was able to improve my pictures to a higher quality.
